1. Engage in a physical activity every day

If you spend a lot of time sitting in your car, at your desk, or on the couch, it’s never too late to make a change! That said, adults are recommended to get involved in at least 60 minutes of exercise each day. 2. Constantly evaluate your mood

Your mood is an important part of your mental health and well-being. Having a bad mood can lead to negative effects on your mental and emotional state as well as on your daily interactions with other people. Learning to assess how you feel will enable you to gain awareness of how you can adjust to certain situations.

4. Avoid eating processed foods

For optimal health, it’s best to start slowly in cutting back on highly processed foods and supplementing your meals with fresh foods. Also, take more water than sugar-sweetened beverages.

5. Get a good night's rest

Older adults need about the same amount of sleep as all adults, about 7 to 9 hours each night. If you don’t get a good night’s rest then it is common to experience irritability, forgetfulness, and even feelings of depression.  

Follow a regular sleep schedule, avoid late afternoon napping, and try to avoid television and other electronic devices in the bedroom to avoid affecting your circadian rhythm. Remember, contrary to popular belief, alcohol makes it harder to stay asleep.
